Contemplating removing the skimmer on my 300 gal, 5 year old reef
the pump went out 2 weeks ago and now I am thinking about not replacing it. It pulls off my 150 gal DSB refuge and i am wondering if it inhibits my plankton production? Thoughts?

If it ain't broke don't fix it. "It" meaning the tank.

Probably does impact plankton a bit, but not significantly. I'm with edwing, if it aint broke, dont fix it. There are other ways to get plankton or a plankton substitute into the tank.

I do not have one on my 375 but I do agree with the above.

I am skimmerless. It works for me and my setup, every setup is different. IME if your using a large refugium like that the macro might be able to do the same job as the skimmer both in nutrient consumption and C02 levels.
