Home Depot Glass as HQI UV shield?

I just talked to a person at home depot that said they'd be able to cut me a 6"x8" peice of glass to use as a UV shield for my 150 HQI hetal halide light. I just have a few questions before I buy it...

-The glass is not tempered... how big of a deal is this? has anyone used non-tempered glass and had theirs break?

-I don't know if the glass has a UV shield in it. I know that most glass does... would this?

-Is 6"x8" a good size? It will go over a 18H which has the same footprint as a standard 10g tank.

Thanks

You'll find most glass shields in MH fixtures are not tempered, so not a big deal

More than likely, generally speaking the cheaper the glass the more it filters as it's not as clear as the "better"/more expensive stuff

This would depend on you are planning to place it
