Large Angel ?
I've been looking to put a large angel in my tank. I've always loved them and have seen a bunch of people recently having success with these fish in acro tanks. I'm also looking for an angel that will take care of my getting out of hand mushroom problem. I've brought these purple shrooms with me from my first nano tank and I'm done with them.
I need some advice on an angel that will munch these down and be a safe bet in a 90% acro tank. Thanks!

My emperor eats zoos and I suspect him of eating a clam (even though they existed together for about 6 months). I haven't seen him pick at the SPS, but he also doesn't eat my mushrooms or frogspawns. I have heard they it completely depends on the individual fish. In hindsight, I wish I didn't put him in my tank. Although he is cool looking, I don't really trust him. I also miss having zoos.

hey pat,
not many things eat mushrooms, they are very slimy and toxic. my french picked at them a bit, but did much more damage to others. your best bet would be joes juice or kalk.

Walgreens gives needles for free - i have a relative that works there and have gotten them to take out mushrooms before. Kalk paste won't pass through the small needles they have though.

I gave up. I didn't want to ask for more needles. I felt like a junkie or something. I have cut off mushrooms with a razor blade if they get too close to an sps. I am sure it releases some unpleasant stuff into the tank when you do this, so I wouldn't do it to multiple ones at a time. My sister-in-law said she gets people in once in awhile at Walgreens with the same request. I think you can get larger needles if you ask though.

This is just a suggestion, but...
Would the needle from, say, a turkey juicer syringe be too thick of a gauge to use for this kind of job? I only suggest this because they seem like they're pretty rugged (the one that I own is), and they can be rinsed out and probably be used more than once... or so I think. |

Are you sure walgreens just hands out syringes? I could use one to take out my aptasias but would feel weird asking the pharmacist can I get a syringe to kill anemones.. I'm not doing drugs or funny business I swear....

yes, they will give them out. You will feel weird about it, but they give them out -basically as a community service type thing.

I have gotten syringes many times from walgreens. They usually dont' ask questions since it can be used to administor medicine.

I've had yes and no from Walgreens in the past, but haven't asked in a couple of years.

Pat - if you think you can get by without injecting them and just squirting on them, try a sea-squirt feeder - I think they extend to about 30-35 inches long.

I doubt that just squirting them will do the job.

Service is to prevent HIV...New needles for free=not reusing needles=no spreading of hepatitis, HIV and other nasties.
