How safe is a Euphyllia Torch Coral with an emporer angel?
Hi guys,
Well I have a well behaved 'changing' juv. emporer in my 240, in which I have half a dozen sps corals. I am purposely sticking to sps because they have a better reputation for sucess with angels, emperor angels in particular. However I would like to add a pair of clownfish, together with a surrogate host...... and thought that a euphyllia torch coral would make a suitable substitute....... Would this be a good choice? Thanks, Regards, Matt

Problem is the clowns are not guaranteed to adopt the euphyllia. I had the same idea with my clowns. 6 months later, they still hang out against the glass of the tank

The angel won't touch the Torch, they pack a punch to most fish that try to taste them, as well as hammers and frogspawn. It will be hit or miss with you clowns hosting it...

I thought the stinging LPS would be safe from my Blue Girdled Angel but he has taking a liking to my Hammer I feed my fish well but every now and then he'll come by and nip at it..Its not doing so good eiher

My sense is that Emperors are less likely than Blue Girdled to pick, and my changing Emperor has never given either of my torches a second look or any kind of taste. Nor have my clowns.

My emp never looks at my torch (does sample sps occasionally). Two skunk clowns never get close to the torch either.

Thanks for all the input folks.
Well I was planning on getting a pair of Clarkii clowns. From my own experience, and from numerous reports of just about everyone who has clarkii clowns, it would seem they will host in just abotu anything. My old clarkii used to host in a sacrphyton toadstool mushroom......... so I am just hoping that if I put the coral in first, give it a while to settle, then add the clarkii pair later, that they will go for it. If they don't, then its not the end of the world - I like the torch coral anyway. Cheers guys, Matt
