If your dimensions are 84lx24wx30h than I would say 14"-16" bulb to the water so a canopy of at leat 22" will allow for coral growth down the line. You will have to test and see - you may be fine with 14". Mike L.'s(Acropora Nut's) tank is 32" wide and 30" tall and he gets plenty of light 14.5" from bulb to the water. You have a 7ft tank so going up to 15" or 16" might be optimal. Just have to try it out I would go with a 24" canopy if you can just to have the space and that would allow 18" bulb placement which should be plenty of room for most systems fully grown.
