Not sure what you are doing with your camera but if you are using the flash, that changes the coloring significantly.
I found turning the flash off really brought the colors out.

Although I am far from an expert, I agree with what you say.
I believe the key issue here is that people setting up new systems for the 1st time miss the point that less rock REQUIRES better equipment.....They sometimes go with the less rock and do not upgrade the equipment or even use it.
