That would be my choice as well, as long as the feed line to the pump is large enough to overcome any restriction.
If your return pump has a 1.5" intake, and since your sump hasn't even been built yet, why not just go with a 2" bulkhead and plumbing up to the pump? It'll cost you more for the bulkhead, single union ball valve, and strainer, but you'll never have to worry about it after that.
Would you orient the pump to it vents heat toward the front of the stand or out the back? Toward the front puts the plumbing toward the rear of the stand; toward the front puts the plumbing in the way unfortunately.
