It depends on the size of the radial or axial polyps esclerites.

If the esclerite is prominent to allow its collect, it is possible to remove it. In corals like Acropora multiacuta, for exemple, seen in this pic below, is possible to do it.



Other cases, with less prominent esclerits, you need to collect more than one polyp to propagate.

Of course this metode has high associated costs and is only recommended for rare or expensive colonys.
