I believe it is all about nutrient export. I am now thinking that the demise in the health of my tank when I had the RDSB and fuge was just the age of the tank, it was still pretty new. I am happy with what mine is doing now without the RDSB and fuge. I am still tossing around running them both though. My sump is set up for it, I just don't have anything in there. Now that my tank has passed the magical 1 year mark, I can feed as much as I want and never see any change in params. The filter sock I use 24/7 is part of my "export".
