This is a good idea, I did the same with mine before Katrina brushed through S. FL. I keep meaning to buy a can of carb cleaner and an engine repair manual to put with my hurricane stuff. Murphy's law says the only time I won't be able to crank the generator will be precisely when I need it the most.
Also, a chain and padlock to tie down your generator isn't a bad idea. I know someone who went outside to "gas up" their generator after it stopped running, only to find a couple of jerks loading it into their pickup truck.
