Hoyta, I have the same skimmer. I made the diy gate valve with white pvc from home depot, and gate from us plastics online. Gate was around $16, but pvc was less than $5. Works great, much easier/finer control over skimming level. Mine is in 8-9" water, maybe deeper than some recommend, but it does a great job for me, so I won't mess with success. Mine is on a 90g, with 40g sump, mixed reef.
