You could still reverse the 50 mm over set of extension tubes.Kenko is a cheap on, costs only around 100 usd for a set of 3 extension tubes:12-20-and 36mm It still gives you Autofocus and metering if you use the lens non reversed.
You can achieve much better magnification ratios with your 50 mm reversed over 68mm of extension tubes. will post some pics I took with this setup as soon as I process them.
