There is a reason why you bought the hydor flo. Since your not looking at your tank 24/7/365, on your new one you could put an on/off switch on it. When you go to look at the tank, turn it off, when you leave turn it back on.

I will try the white vinegar this evening and see how it does over night. But I am still really liking the flow the tank how now with it off. who know's...
