LT plates do have poor survivablity rates beyond a year. Yes it has been done but many more have died than surived long term.
It could very well be you did nothing specifically wrong and water parameters alone are not going to make you successful at beating the odds.
Best to just avoid buying them in the future. With no demand hopefully will send the message to stop collecting them.
