yea I thought something was fishy when I saw the two were both from ohio.
One thing I will say about this whole situation is...when I sell things on ebay, if there is a problem with something, I would expect the buyer to contact me before opening up and working on anything, because once thats been done I will not have anything else to do with it. I would have no way of knowing what was done since its not a qualified tech working on it.
I don't know if you did that, but I think I would have stopped right when It didnt work and sent it back to him for a refund, not try to do a repair. Just IMO
