bagedtaco, I've been thinking that you
might consider putting two or three check valves in a row, with unions and ball valves. That way you can remove them for cleaning. It really is a shame that everything has to rely on one little piece of plumbing, that can fail unexpectedly. Maybe if you could find a $100 checkvalve that was absolutely guaranteed to not fail, it would be worth every cent.
