In the display, the corals as displayed are currently about 25% real. They have set up a fairly impressive coral prop facility upstairs from the reef, and have a second facility about 15 minutes away where the majority of the corals are being propogated. Their goal is to have it 100% real. Not sure of timing. They have also set up an facility in Fiji for live rock aquaculture.
I'm not affiliated with the Aquarium, but was there last month and did the 'Behind the scenes tour.' The guy leading the tour was a trainee - his instructor (stayed in the back with me) was one of the people responsible for the reef system. It was amazing to speak with him - we covered everything from salinity to calcium supplementation in the reef. Ozone usage, orp, lighting - you name it and I asked.
