Thoughts for Nano tank lighting???

I recently read a very well written article by Mike Kidra and thought I'd join the forum to ask some questions.

(It's from 2003 but in case anyone's interested it's here:

I have two basic questions.

#1 - I'm planning on a fairly small desktop nano reef tank. My latest Dimension plans are 15L x 9 Deep x 15H (roughly 8.8 Gal).

I'd like a light that's a max of the 15" length but don't know how many options I really have. I'd appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

I've also been thinking about using LEDs and noticed one fellow in that article above who was in fact using some. Does anyone have any data on LED usage?

#2 - It's always been fairly apparent to me that we tend to disregard nature when building our tanks and I'd like to try and understand a bit about the true lighting requirements and depths of various corals. If possible I'd like to place them at proper heights within the tank accordingly.

If anyone knows of any websites or references that discuss this please let me know.

Thanks,
