It's so funny your totally right! Even after you think you get it right it leaks a little. Then after a day or so I guess the salt fills in the open areas. I hope they changed it.
Yeah Vinyl is crap, but I figured when I have to clean the sump I can just move it out of the way or out of the sump. I guess you can do the same with regular PVC I would just have to use a union.
