Try Krylon paints, they have been used in PVC piping under water with no issues.
Avoid any crommed pieces of the model as well as any metalic looking paint, they are most likely aluminized or have copper particles.
Styrene in itself will be OK, most eggcrate used in the hobby for frag supports is styrene just insure to wash the pieces well to remove any unmoulding agents. Finally aquarium wise it is preferable to use CA glue to assemble the model rather than the solvent based one.
