Seems counterproductive to me to have water running down the skimmer neck. It would have to be on a timer, otherwise I don't think the skimmer would be very efficient. That being said, it does sound like a good way to keep scum from building up. Hopefully anything dislodged by the sprinkler head would be pushed up into the collection cup.
