I've had both my fair share of mantis and abalone. Both foods to die for. When I was working in hong kong, I ate mantis like twice a week.
I have ran across mantis at a restaurant in Milpitas before. They were called squillas on their menu I think. Didnt order it though. They said market price and when asked, market price was $75 a pound.
