yep,had the same issue with one a while back.It would give that error-usually after a power surge/loss of power.It was annoying,because the Ranco has a built in memory for power outages,but I would have to re-set it each time.This could have been a serious issue,if away on vacation.The last time this happened,the controller just kept showing the E2 & I couldn't reset it.I ended up dumping it(as I bought it used)& am now running the spare.Did you have a recent power surge?
