To answer one question - yes, there is very little algae in the AM - as grows as the lights are on over time. I think this is consistent with everything else I've read. Snails are next . . . .

Don't sweat it - these corals go through a cycle where they change color, look "waxy", then look fuzzy, then grow larger. As long as your water is OK, this is normal and your leather will look fine...

I would stay away from PH's from RIO. I have a RIO800, and while is it powerful - it is extremely noisy. I also have a MaxiJet 1200, and it is fantastic!
