Definitely not normal. Draw off a few gallons from the display. Slowly add RO water (NO SALT) until the levels come into the range you want.

I am sure you know, but do not top off with salt...

Can I keep a dogface in a 75 or 90? I have plans to add an aquarium in our dining room. There is room for a 6 foot tank, but would a 4 foot tank work? The wife loves the dogface.

Your amonia should be 0. Keep an eye on that. You may be having a mini cycle. Mine hides often by loves to eat flakes and frozen mysis.

I use a 44 gallon trash can to mix my salt. I add about 30 or so gallons of RO, add the salt, mix with powerhead at least overnight, I use a heater as well.

I use the 1200 as well. Mix salt with it and then pump it into the tank. I occassionaly use it for water changes if I do not feel like vacuuming and tasting saltwater. Works great.
