I have bubbles on the sand too.When the MH's go on they seem to catch a ride to the surface, a couple at a time. There is hundreds all over the top of the sand bed. What to do?

Yeah, one vote for the sump. I'm with Bosk on using the sump. There are many benefits to consider in running one. Maybe a 10 0r 20 gal would be used with your tank.
