Gabe, 7.9 is too low, kick that up slowly to 8.3-8.4. If you can keep it stable at 8.3-8.4 you will be gold.

A friend and I built this monstrosity last year as a temporary kalkwasser reactor using acrylic tubing, a maxi-jet and a scrumptious mound of epoxy.
I'm too ashamed to post pictures of it....
