If you don't mind you could use an oilbase underbody primer. Latex primer will be fine too. Then you can topcoat it with a latex acrylic paint.

Just for future reference you can use either of the products listed above on an oil stain. This lacquer is not difficult to spray either, IMO....

Sherwin Williams has a nice lacquer ( Sher-Wood® CAB-Acrylic Lacquer ) or (Sher-Wood® Moisture Resistant Lacquer ).
The Cab-Acrylic is probably your better option. It is more of a premium product....

We use a Benjamine moore alkyd enamel undercoater that sands smooth. Then dust and topcoat with an acrylic or latex topcoat. Oilbase topcoat really is not necessary, IMO.
