I've got them in my tank. I've had some strange algae problems but after about 2 years it has started to get better. I'm not sure if it was the ceramics or poor maintence on my part.

I have pretty good flow in my 150. I have about 3600 GPH turnover in my tank.

Actually they can get over 2'.
I wouldn't recommend them for a tank smaller than 8' in length if you plan on keeping them long term.

I use "Arm and Hammer" baking soda to raise the Alkalinity in my Display tank. So it shouldn't harm you fish if you rinse it all out before you add the fish to the bucket.
