Maybe the chiller you were using was too small for your tank and was always running. Most people I know are lucky enough not to have to use a chiller.

I would suggest either the XM 20K or the Hamilton Tech 14K. Both are good looking bulbs IMO.

Why not save money and go with PFO metal halide unit. Not everyone needs a chiller with metal halide. That is just not true.

It will work but you will likely want to change the bulbs. The hydroponic MH bulbs are about 4K. It will look really yellow in color.

I have used both. Both are good bulbs. The Radium is a little bluer. Of the two, I like the look of the Hamilton bulb better.
