If it's a new tank and you have a ro unit then what is the rush to fill it. If you start with ro water then you know you have given the tank the best posssible start.

From my limited experience with leathers if you touch it, it should be firm and feel like 'leather', if it is all 'mushey' it is probably dieing, hope this is of some use to you.

Thanks for the replies, i am using carbon to 'polish' the water and use 100g, removing every 2 weeks when i clean the external filter (i then leave it out for 2 weeks and start over).
