i agree it is a big risk. you can but a couple of plastic tubs for anything in the tank. drain it drill it. give tubs to your wife and say "I got these for you to store your sweaters in the summer"...

you dont need a sump, but i found when i set up my 46 ( was my first tank) that it makes it easier. also it will hide...
