If you use a sanding sealer, sand everything well, and paint in the proper conditions (ie, proper fluid viscosity, humidity, & temp) you can get a smooth finish with almost any wood.

Great fabrication. Your collimation plate is upside down. Though it should still work. The sheering forces will be harsher as the bubble-air mixture travels to the skimmer column.
