How old is your tank? If it's new, your pod population will balance out and they will be less noticeable. I'm not sure I would ever buy a mandarin to control pods. I would get one because I want one....

In theory I see no reason why not. My only concern would be that some of the walls on those things tend to be pretty flimsy. Other option would be those large Rubbermaid tubs.

The generally move pretty slow but don't let them fool you. They can dart pretty quickly. I'm amazed at how quickly mine moves when spooked. Still shouldn't be too bad to catch.
