I had heard of the lime but never pickling alum....
I had heard of the lime but never pickling alum. That is what I am confused about. Maybe the person who told me about it was mixing up words.

Maybe try a larger clam the next time. As ezcompany said, smaller clams are harder to care for than the larger ones. They can tolerate more stress. HTH

I try to keep mine around 79-80. It has gone as high as 83 in the summer with no noticeable problems. I would try to keep it below 84 degrees. HTH

I had the same problem with the larger aiptasia....
I had the same problem with the larger aiptasia. What worked for me was to remove as much as I could of the larger aiptasia then the peppermint shrimp had no problem finishing it off. HTH
