I think the term in itself is an oxymoron. I learned the hard way. I put a crosshatch in my reef and he used to nip at the mantles of my clams. He was in there all of two days.

I have a 120g with a 40g refugium and a 30 gallon sump with 2 400W MH and I use a 1/2hp. Works beautifully...

All types of eel can live in an environment like this, it's just none of your inverts and fish will be safe. I would suggest a dwarf moray, but they'll eat fish that are small enough.
