Front access on an inwall tank

Does most everybody agree front access is mandatory on an inwall tank? If so how much would you suggest? Would roughly 8 inches or so be enough?

I built my stand 40" tall out of 2" square tubing...

I built my stand 40" tall out of 2" square tubing and then went and had it Line-x coated. I also built a 14" catwalk that bolts on.

I put one on my daughters 14gallon and it's ok. It doesn't pull out anything dark. You will have to constantly adjust it for some reason? I think the Tunze nano skimmer is the way to go!
