If it doesn't say "aquarium safe", I wouldn't use it. To be safe, go to Petco or Petsmart and buy from them.

I would just eliminate the pump to the refuge. Instead, I would suggest putting a tee coming from the overflow feeding both sump and refugium equally.

2-5 nitrates is really good. Although, 0 is even better. Some people here in RC would kill for that reading. Making it 3 gallons instead of 1.5 should not make a dent on your nitrates anyway.

I will be using everything I have current right...

I will be using everything I have current right now except for the sand. It's so tiny I can't have too much flow. I'm just afraid tha I might lose some of my SPS collection during the process.
