They both take great pics, but for tank shots I'd find them limiting. You can't manually adjust the shutter speed, or aperture, which is something I use a lot. These two do have good macro...

I know this goes against the grain, but for a p&s camera like the a70, you just don't need a heavy duty tripod. Your camera just doesn't weigh as much as a dSLR with a long lens.
