I would not reccomend under any situation putting any clam in a tank that small or under just a 36w PC bulb.

Agreed....I knew a clam freak with a 265g that refused to get a gigas even though he wanted one! (From multiple accounts I've heard moving a large gigas is very risky)

I personally wouldn't put a gigas or derasa in any small tank, even for a relatively short period of time. Your tank, size wise could house a maxima or crocea, but you would need to upgrade to...

Many, many people do, but I strongly suggest you take a4twenty's advice. Giving that book a good read will be invaluable before you try to keep clams.

As far as lighting is concerned, 2x32 watt PCs will not work for any clam. For a 20" your bare minimum light would be 150w Metal Halide. 250w would be even better.

I personally wouldn't do it. I've seen too many people fail with PCs and maximas. Some have, but I've personally never seen it. If you try it, get that clam as high up to the lights as possible...

Unfortunately other than scraping the top altogether, you're probably out of luck. Those lights wouldn't sustain the lowest light Tridacnid. For a maxima, you'd likely want a 150w Metal Halide bulb...

Clams are commonly kept with Metal Halide bulbs. When I had a 29g with clams I had a 250w MH bulb plus 2 55w PC actinic bulbs. A single derasa wouldn't require that much, though. Multiple T5s...

More PCs aren't guarenteed to cut it. You would be well advised to look into at least a 70w MH bulb.

IME, that lighting is not going to cut it. Honestly, bleaching it not going to be a good indicator. Often clams look fine right until they croak.

Try to get at least a 70w MH bulb over it soon,...
