Try doing 1/2 tsp of sugar every day for a month and see what happens. The sugar is food for the bacteria that will use your nitrates up. It will work, just give it some time.

I've made one of the coils before and believe me, it's easer to just put in a 1/4 tsp of sugar every day. The sugar alone will bring your nitrates down under 5 ppm in two weeks.
