You get what you pay for. Oddysea is know for fire proubles at the worst. At best cheap fans, bulbs, ballasts and reflectors. Coral life makes very good and inexpensive lights.

The coral life aqualight advanced is a very nice light. It is a 48 inch 3 x150 watt hqi. This will give you much better light coverage that 2x175. Check out hellolights.com

Ya your alk is a little high. Your not dosing anything? What salt mix are your using. It my be out of balance if your are not dosing any alk or calcium to the tank. Water changes are always the best...

Mineral mud and sand work great. I have always used chaeto untill recently. I switch to calurpra and it all die off inside a week. Made my tank all cloudy, that was a big mistake. Go with chaeto.

I like to toy with my tank. IMO that is part of the hobby it the daily or weekly tasks. Been doing reef for almost three years now and still enjoy every dirty minute of it.

I have seen no benifits from using vita chem on a reef tank. Most of it will get skimmed out anyway. The rest will just add to water quality problems.
