It seems to me as though it is simply a dying industry. Look at all the specialty stores on the internet, and all the big-boxes like Petsmart. Look how few LFS's are staying alive.

I'll disagree. I like plugs. My tank isn't an amazing looking tank anyway, and I just find the ease of a plug for fragging off and on is worth the lack of looks.
