What works well for that is to get some large rubber bands at an office supply store and slip them over the glove and push it up to just below top, it'll keep the water from going into the glove...

If I had to, I'd top off with less freshwater than needed (say the tank evaporates 1 gallon a day I'd put in 3/4) as long as that doesn't cause problems with equipment running due to a lowered water...
