Re: I can't believe what I have done. I should be arrested.

I think this is a bad idea, personally. I'd wait until you know you can't solve that aiptasia problem before cooking the rock, that should be a last resort. Cooking might not get rid of all the...

I could understand why algae isn't growing in your display tank with all the tangs etc...., but your refugium is crystal-clear. Doesn't seem like that could possibly be a 'too-high' nutrient issue...

While I would agree that it is unlikely that reef enthusiasts will ever restock the worlds oceans, it is useful to keep in mind that our hobby has had a detrimental effect on some species. Cleaner...

Sounds good! You can always look at the RC head loss calculator to get an IDEA of how much head loss you are experiencing. The calculator is here:

Racso-- In your post, you gave a lot of reasons why there SHOULD be a "Do Not Buy list".

So going back to the original post... let's define a Do not Buy list as "fish that just do not fare...

Thanks. Yeah, I am hoping when I tear down the tank for the move, I'll be able to clean things out a bit. Between that, and fixing my lack of water movement, I am hopeful the problem will go away....

Question How quickly do I need to fix a bad cyano outbreak...?

We moved my reeftank (well, I moved my reeftank :) ) over to my inlaws house while we tried to sell our condo a year ago. That didn't happen, so now I want to move the tank back. Unfortunately, due...

You can have the overflows wherever you want-- spaced evenly across the back should be fine.

If possible, I'd wait on the anemone if you can. I'd get some soft corals and see how it goes first. I think a lot of people have tried to keep anemones and have been unsucessful after a period of...

I would advise against the hang on refugium with a built in protein skimmer. IF it is what I think it is, the protein skimmer that it comes with is sub-par, to say the least.

I understand you...

That's pretty much the same setup on my 55 gallon before I switched to SW. I really liked the African cichlids, but wanted to try something new (and my wife nixed my getting another tank). I am...

You'll probably want some more snails-- maybe 5-6 ceriths or 1-2 turbos. Your nassarius are good at cleaning up the sand, but will probably stay off the rocks and glass-- that leaves 4 astraea and I...

What you are describing is not a bad idea, as long as you feel safe drilling the tank. You will have to make sure that the external overflow is well sealed so you aren't going to have any leaks in...

With reef tanks, costs really go up proportional to the size of the tank, and add up very quickly. The larger the tank, the more room for corals... and the greater potential for loss when a disaster...

I didn't comment on this, but I think this is a very good point. Another reason why corals may go extinct, and one issue where we 'coral reef' enthusiasts may have some insight.
