DSb is a deep sand bed, Recommended 4" to 6" height, Need fine sand. It helps with Nitrates but needs a detivore kit from like ipsf.com and inlandaquactics.com. I recommend to try to get a cup of two...

It will take time to settle, with the rock in there it will settle better especially when the sand gets bacteria on it, is this real live sand or the stuff you buy in a bag?

It's not the same as southdown, It's not good for a DSB. I think old castle dont make southdown anymore, The Caribsea is a way better sand if youre going to do a DSB.
