you may have to make a pod pile if you don't have a fuge. It's basically a pile of LR rubble with a strawberry basket over top. so pods can breed but fish can't get into to eat them.

I say skip the live rock. If you have a cycled sponge it should be good enough. If the fish carries in something, that can get in the LR and stay there indef.

Wouldn't a w/c help the problem? For nitrates get a powerhead to put waste in the water column, and siphon it out. But I agree, don't get a product to alter your ph, more trouble than it's worth.
