I bought one and had it in my zoanthid tank for about a year. I have since moved him to my 240 softy tank. Great fish.

First of all I would start looking for different mods you can do with the pump (switch pumps?) to get better skimming from it.
CPR use to use some pretty puny pumps with their skimmers.

On my tank the euro bracing had excess silicone and on the bottom wasn't the best, but the verticle seams were just fine.

Leave them be, but in a area of moderate flow. Not directly at them.
