Is the entire starfish swollen, or just a portion of an arm? There is a parasitic mollusk that affects linkia stars causing swelling of individual arm sections - could be what you have. Need pics.

I think it just shows the adaptability of nature - the crab had a shell previous to moving into the bottle - it just found the bottle more roomy and decided to use it.

I am planning a DSB in a 30 gallon sump for my 55 Gallon tank. How deep should the sand bed be, and what size sand grains would be optimal? Small like sugar grains or should it be a coarser grade?
