you could just cut the base with a fresh razor, pull the head out and put a dab of epoxy over the nub that is left, pack it in around it real good, should work fine, and you can sell the caps...

get some sidecutters (also called wire dykes) ...
get some sidecutters (also called wire dykes) from a car shop, after you use them, rinse them in clean water really well, and spray lightly with some pam cooking spray, that will help stop them...
